This is Biltong. It's a South African method of drying meat. It looks like hell, I admit. But it's the kind of stuff you can't stay away from. It's a lot like jerky; only better.

I've pretty much perfected the method of making it. 

 

Meat, rock salt, pepper, coriander, brown sugar, vinegar and some other stuff and you have a great trail staple. Drop it in a soup, eat it on the fly. For anyone carnivore-isly inclined this is a great staple.
