Each spring senior science students are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of Provincial and National contests. These contests are sponsored by various universities and science associations to challenge students to excel beyond the classroom. Interested students should see their science teacher for more information and to sign up. Enrichment Opportunities These activities offer students at all levels the chance to connect
classroom learning to the real world. Field trips include destinations
such as Long Point, Backus Conservation Area and the Ontario Science
Centre. Other events include guest speakers who have chosen career
paths related to science, off-campus workshops such as “Scientifically
Yours” and “Shad Valley”, and the opportunity to
participate in competitive events like the annual Science Olympics
challenge. Awards The D.D.S.S. Science department presents annual awards in recognition of highest achievement for all courses. Special awards are presented to senior science students demonstrating outstanding performance in each subject area. At D.D.S.S. we are committed to... English T.S. Elliot Argues, "Every development in language is a development of feeling as well." At DDSS, the study of English develops our language and thus our self-understanding. Our feelings are more accurately discerned, and therefore our lives are enhanced.
Co-operative Education Cooperative Education is a plannes learning experience that integrates classroom theory and learning experiences at a workplace. While working at some of the placements the students may qualify for the OYAP program. This means that wile on placements earning credits, a students can be registered as an apprentice. Differents types of relationships are built through the co-op department. We have a triangle relationship because of the lerning settings. We have the student, who must please two supervisors, the teacher and the employer. We have students who have achieved great success in their workplaces. Some of our graduates have been hired full time, some part time and yet another employer is interested in enrolling one of our students in an apprenticeship program. Another positive highlight for the program is that we have had three students complete their co-op placements overseas, two in Thailand and one in Chine. Work is presently in progress to send two students to Indonesia and receive four credits. As you can see there is a lot of versatility in the co-op program. Cooperative Education allows you to gain experience in a certain field, try a certain type of work, or ensures you that your career decision iis correct. Business Studies The world of business will provide the vast majority of career and job opportunities. Business studies attempt to keep career path doors open so that students will have the best chance of attaining a rewarding and satisfying future. Business subjects touch upon every aspect from computer hardware and software to retail sales, from the psychology of behaviour to international economics. Business Studies have traditionally endeavoured to instill employability skills in students. As well, the business dtudents develop practical skills, like keyboarding, accounting, and computer literacy, which makes them more useful and desirable to future employers. Family Studies
